Noise Phobia: A possibly serious problem
Noise phobia is illogical fear of sounds that we humans know are harmless, but our pets and horses don't necessarily know that. Up to 50% of dogs can have anything from saddening anxiety, to frantic fear when they hear unknown noises. This can be from being sad, to very serious, with injury or damage for dog or owner, dogs fleeing and getting lost, or even death.
The method to deal with this problem is called noise phobia therapy. In the classical method, potentially scary sounds are played, usually from one CD or set of MP3 sounds. The volume is from very low in the beginning, to full volume in the end, in the therapy process that can take several weeks. The goal is that the dog becomes used to the sounds and is not scared when they are actually heard.
WeStopFear has carefully analyzed the classical process, and believes it has drawbacks that are vital to address.
Innovations of WeStopFear
WeStopFear™ has developed a new technical therapy process, designed with the goal that the majority of users will hopefully see it as easier, simpler, safer, more natural and more bearable. The system is called Simple Secure Steps™.
WeStopFear is the most comprehensive solutions ever offered. It is a member's website with Internet-streaming audio players. It is thus similar to music streaming websites. You can use your mobile device or computer, connected wirelessly or with cable to loudspeakers with good volume and audio quality. MP3 download is also an upgrade option.
The volume level of the therapy sounds is pre-set to the correct volume, in five steps. This makes the process simpler and safer. Access to the steps is managed, meaning less hassle and organization is needed.
WeStopFear offers a solution for dogs along with all other types of pets, and horses. It is a matter of principle, that owners of all pet types will have this opportunity to improve their pets' wellbeing.
WeStopFear is systematically designed for improvement
The most extensive noise phobia therapy solution in history and the first extensive set of multi-faceted innovations in this field since around 2010 that we know of.
Dog focused interface
The user experience, graphics, extensive instructions, and list of signs of fear and phobia are focused on dogs. You will feel “at home” as a dog owner with dog-specific advice and graphics.
Safer for your dog
Mistakes are “designed out” of the process and made close-to-impossible. Natural Intervals make it more likely that your dog and yourself will endure the process well. With future maintenance of success.
Simpler and easier for you
The innovations of Volume Anchor, Ascending Loudness, Timed Access and Natural Intervals make these Simple Secure Steps easier, simpler and safer for you to implement.
Is your dog in danger of this problem?
Hopefully not but it is possible. We cannot tell which (type) will encounter this or when. Although fireworks, thunder and traffic are common, then any sound can cause problems.
The most logical thing for you is to conduct this type of therapy to prevent it. This makes it a less likely problem.
Is your dog already fearful of some sound?
If so, then necessary to conduct this therapy to heal the situation.
Innovations of WeStopFear
All noise phobia therapy products work if done correctly. However, WeStopFear includes innovations not seen before: Volume Anchor™, Ascending Loudness™, Timed Access™ and Natural Intervals™ make up the Simple Secure Steps™ therapy process design. It has multiple instructions and reminder system, and it is more comprehensive than any solution that has been available before.
Pricing for all
Monthly prices for online training are often $20-30, and a single in-person session can cost $350. The prices for WeStopFear programs, especially annual subscriptions, is way below these numbers. The goal is to offer WeStopFear at a very manageable cost.
What WeStopFear provides:
- Members area with Internet-streaming audio players with therapy sounds, pre-set to the right volume, in five steps with managed access to the right step at every stage.
- Comprehensive instructions and training videos.
- Dedicated solution to each type of pet or horse.
- Self-serve system with option of Premium upgrade with support tickets and more.
- Customized email series with reminders, encouragement, information and offers.
What you provide:
- The audio playback device(s) with loudspeakers that can deliver the sounds with a realistical audio quality and loudness.
- Choosing the locations, finding the right volume setting, and managing the process.
- Monitoring the state of your dog during the therapy to manage it correctly, referring to the comprehensive list of the signs of fear and phobia in dogs (included).
.
Simple equipment
You can use your smartphone, tablet or computer to stream the sounds over the Internet. With this you need a good quality loudspeaker(s) with realistic volume, either wireless or connected with speaker cables.
If you want to play without being connected, from an MP3 playing device or even burn your CDs, then you can upgrade to MP3 and MP4 files download additionally.
Don’t procrastinate
This problem can come any day and is unannounced. The likelihood increases with higher age Thus, it is not so that if your dog has reached a certain age then it is safe.
Start today!
If you don't do anything, your dog continues to be at the same risk as before. There is nothing protecting it from this problem.
If you don’t like this, you can cancel any time without any questions asked. So don’t postpone starting to take care of this issue for your beloved dog.
Three programs: More, Advanced and Full Care
Three programs are available in WeStopFear. All programs have solutions for all types of pets and horses, but for family dogs that are walked on city streets, the Advanced program is recommended. For a dog that spends its time almost entirely inside the apartment, the More program could be sufficient.
If you are the handler of a specially trained service dogs, like K9 police dogs, assistance dogs for the blind or disabled, and the like, then they need to be especially well balanced in any situation. For them, the Full Care Program is recommended for its extensiveness.
If the dog is a lap dog that spends almost all of its time inside a home, then the More Program could be sufficient.
Try the 5 steps audio players
There are 5 steps in the Simple Secure Steps therapy process. The sounds in the steps are the same. It is only that the volume is pre-set correctly in each step (Ascending Volume™): From very, very low in Step 1, to full natural volume in Step 5. You get access to Step 1 in the beginning, and then gradually to Step 2, Step 3, Step 4 and Step 5, and finally the ongoing Maintain Success stage (Timed Access™).

In the therapy member's pages, you have access to a streaming player that plays the pre-programmed playlists in random order with just one button click, each sound once and then stops. You also have access to players to play individual sounds like below, and you can also choose a number of sounds to create your own custom playlist, which will then be played in random order.
Below are streaming audio player with short samples of therapy sounds.
Try the different volume levels below
Click the three players below to hear 3 second samples of sounds in the five steps, one right after the other. There are two sets to allow you to hear the difference better. Don't do this with your animal present. The volume in the higher steps could give it a shock, just like the actual sounds when they are heard suddenly.
Try the Volume Anchor and a sound player
Below is the player with the piano tune, the "Volume Anchor", and samples of Step 3 sounds.
In the beginning, you find the correct volume setting for the loudspeakers of your audio playback device by playing the piano tune (Volume Anchor™). The volume setting should be so that the piano music is at a good and clear listening level, not very low like soft dinner music at a restaurant, not extremely loud like a rock concert or discotheque.
You will keep this same volume on a particular audio device that you use in a particular location, every time in all the steps. If there are markings or numbers that show the volume setting, then you need to find the right volume setting on the audio device only once. But if there is no scale, number or markings, then you need to play the piano tune each time to set the volume correctly.
Below the players, click the button below that to see and try the piano tune and several samples of sounds of all the five steps.
The Advanced Program is recommended for dogs
Advanced Program
The Advanced Program is mainly for outdoor pets: Dogs, outdoor cats and households with various types of pets that include outdoor pets, i.e. dogs or outdoor cats, and those who want to give their indoor pets a little more comprehensive therapy.

We Want Fewer Stories Like These
Anxious, or worse?
Imagine a normal day with your dog. You should not have a care in the world, but your dog is anxious and whimpering, because of a sound it heard, a sound you know is entirely harmless. It is common among up to 50% of dogs to be uneasy of fearful because of some sounds it does not understand. This is not very serious, but the day is not as joyful as it should be. But for some dogs it can be more serious. Around 2% of dogs can from time to time have very serious problems of this kind. You never know which dog will face this. The likelihood increases with higher age. This can even be catastrophic:
What is this??
Imagine you own a sweet and loving dog. It has been a part of the family for years. Then one day fireworks are set off near your home. Your dog reacts with such fear that it jumps up and through the glass door that leads to the patio. In shock, you are left with broken glass and drops of blood on the patio, and your dog has disappeared into the dark night. For days, you have no information about your dog. Then days later after an agonizing wait, you are contacted by police. Your dog had run over a motor highway and was hit by a truck and fatally injured there. Your dog was microchipped, so that is the reason you did get information about it.
Scared dog bites, what next?
Imagine you own a sweet and loving dog. Then one day it becomes startled because of sudden, unknown noises. The surprising experience throws your dog into a tantrum of fear. It runs amok inside the home, damaging furniture and causing lacerations and teeth and mouth injuries. When your child tries to get your dog under control, your dog reacts by biting the child. The child needs to go to the hospital and a report about the incident is made. What will happen next? Now this is a dog that bites humans. Can the situation be alleviated, or will it be necessary to euthanize your dog?
Prevent or heal
These imaginary trauma stories are based on actual events. They happen every year, and sadly often.
Accidents and negative consequences of fear of sounds can not be completely eliminated, but their likelihood can be reduced, and the problems may be less serious for those who are affected. Maybe that could include your dog?
Noise phobia therapy is the methodology designed to prevent or heal these problems.
Have you heard about this problem? There are plenty of stories of these problems. On your favorite search engine, try searching for keyword phrases like:
- "dogs noise phobia" (or cat, bird, rabbit, i.e. your pet type)
- "dog scared of sounds"(or cat, bird, rabbit, i.e. your pet type)
- "dogs fear of fireworks and thunderstorms" (or your pet type)

Simple Secure Steps process design systematically developed for simpler and safer process, with supportive framework, safeguards, future reminders and encouragement. Carefully thought-out innovations developed with process analysis: Ascending Loudness™, Volume Anchor™, Timed Access™ and Natural Intervals™, designed with the hope that a large part of users will find the process design to be simpler, easier, safer, more natural and more bearable.
Conventional:
Not really a developed system process design. Usually one or two audio CDs, or one set of MP3 files with instructions in a brochure. Not much changed since first introduced.

The Advanced Program is recommended for dogs, as it is designed pets that spend some considerable time outdoors.
The total number of sounds is important. The more the better, as it makes the dog more worldly wise, and it is easier to get used to a new and different sound later on.
You can freely choose the program you want to subscribe to (More which is the least extensive, Advanced (recommended for dogs) or Full Care which has the greatest number of sounds). They all have solutions for dogs.

Video therapy
WeStopFear also includes an innovative Video Therapy. The Simple Secure Steps noise phobia therapy is about noises. But visual stimuli can also be scary, especially fireworks and thunder and lightning.
Recent developments with very large flat-screen TVs with high-definition image, even up to Ultra HD, and HD wall projectors, and good sound has brought up the idea if it would be possible to present visual stimuli to pets and horses via these technologies.
The experimental video therapy allows you to expose your animal to these visual stimuli with the sounds. The idea is that your animal gets used to the visual fanfare, and will possibly be less likely to become scared of the real thing.
The download upgrade includes the video MP4 files, for playback on a device not connected to the Internet.
Video Therapy is under development and will be introduced later.
Six factors of success
No training tool can guarantee 100% success. Conducting noise phobia therapy, either with WeStopFear of some other solution (they can all work well, WeStopFear is simply a new therapy process design), does not mean that you are 100% certain that no dog who has received this method will ever become frightened by noises again. There are many factors which WeStopFear cannot give any guarantee on, as the image below shows. The therapy solution is one part of the equation, and great care has been taken of developing a solution that is the best that WeStopFear can offer, but others are the dogs themselves and their sensitivity, the owners and their expertise in implementation, the audio devices and loudspeakers, the future care, and random events that can have some unforeseen consequences.
What WeStopFear can assert (although not guarantee) is that if say 1 million pet and horse owners would conduct this kind of method diligently, then the overall situation would be much better for those pets and horses, with a lower percentage experiencing trouble, and a higher percentage living their lives free from these problems, compared to 1 million pet and horse owners who would do nothing of this kind.
